Hepatitis C transmission? Can I get hepatitis C from eating or drinking something that contains the blood of someone infected with Hepatitis C? I know that sounds weird at first, but what I'm wondering is if someone who was infected with hepatitis C accidentally cut themselves while making food or something along those lines, and a slight amount of blood came in contact with the food, and then someone who did not have hepatitis C ate that food, is there a chance they could contract the virus?
I know the virus is spread through blood to blood contact, but I'm not sure if that applies in this situation.
Only educated responses please, no speculation.

This question is similar to the one where another person ask if they ate HIV infected blood or if an HIV person bled on them.
Technically speaking you have to have adequate amount of blood and also a prolong exposure. May be if you drank like a 1/2 a liter of their blood, and scraped and cut the inside of your mouth also. Then before swallowing the blood you slush it around your mouth like mouthwash. That would improve your chances of getting Hep C. Even then, I think you may have to try several times.
In the hospital when a personnel gets a needle stick accident, We worry about Hep C only because there is no vaccine for it, but statistically the chances of getting Hep C from a needle stick is 1/400. You stand a greater risk of getting Hep B 1/20, but because all hospital personal are vaccinated/immunized beforehand for Hep B, there are no concerns.

Here is a link about it but it doesn't mention food contact with infected blood. If the food was cooked after the contacked, i would think not but if it was raw like a salad and not washed of good , maybe. the best way to be sure would be to call your local health dept.

no, of course not. Transmitted only by blood to blood such as IV drugs, contaminated blood transfusion (hasn't happened since 1994), or inhalational drugs like snorting cocaine. Only hep A transmitted by eating. Also very little evidence that it is transmitted by sex (as opposed to hep B which is easily transmitted by sex)
