My mom's Insulin pen needle wounded me accidentally but slightly. Could I have got infected with Hepatitis C?Mom's got Hepatitis C. I made sure to bleed my wound and sanitize it with Dettol. Is there still a possibility of infection? What should I do?

Teddyfinch
yes because she doesn't clean the needle after she uses it. you should call a doctor (or hers that's treating her hep c) and find out what you can do and when to be tested.

it is possible but unlikely, you will need to contact a doctor immediately as there is a retro-active treatment which can eliminate the virus in about 50% of infected people if caught in time. You will also need to schedule regular testing over the next 26 weeks as this is the max incubation time for Hep C and if you do not test positive after that you are probably in the clear.

Is likely yes! Go get yourself checked out! Theres not a huge chance but better safe than sorry hey chick?

yes, this is a signifigant risk factor for acquiring hcv.
you will need a test now (to rule out past exposure as well as the possibility of being born with hcv or other risk factors) and a retest again at day 50 post exposure. most do not develope antibodies for hcv until about the 50th day (the majority of people exposed to hcv didn't test positive until that 50tth day).

all it takes is a drop of blood unseen to the naked eye to transmit. bleeding your wound can actually make the transmission easier.

good luck!

I would for sure call your mom's doctor and find out what you can do. It wouldn't hurt to be sure.
