a question about blood testing for Hepatitis?

Do you find what you need? Look here!

a question about blood testing for Hepatitis?I had a blood test done for all viral hepatitis and in the past I know I've had vaccines for A and B. On my results from this blood test, it says my Hepatitis A Virus Total is Reactive where all the other ones (B and C) have been on-reactive. Does this mean I have been exposed to Hepatitis A but the vaccines did its job? My doctor wasn't too concerned with it but I'd like to make some sense out of it and I can't reach him because he's too busy

Did you get a titer test? Then you could be immune for hepatitis A and not for B and C.By the way for B there is a total of 3 vaccines over a number of months. Also you may need a booster after a number of years.Talk to your MD.

It sounds like you have had the vaccine for Hep A (HAV), but if you aren't testing "reactive" to Hep B (HBV) it sounds like the vaccine didn't "take". After hep vaccines, you should have a titer done to see if there are appropriate levels of the antibodies in your blood. If not, then you may not be protected.
For the Hep C antibody test, there is no vaccine, so since it is non-reactive, that means you haven't been exposed (that's a good thing!). Talk to your doctor, when you can get ahold of him, and see if you should be re-vaccinated. Best wishes.
