Can anyone have a "false" positive hepatitis c results?I know someone who recently had some blood work done and the results show positive for hepatitis C, however this person never had blood transfusions, never did drugs, never had sex with anyone besides the spouse (and the spouse was tested and does not have it). Can the results be false? And if so, what could have cause the positive results?

All types of blood and urine tests can come back as a false positive, and there are many reasons that this can happen. Labor error and medications are the biggest culprit.

Very true, the best way to confirm this test is to have an Hepatitis antigen/antibody test done. This is a very specific test to weed out false positives also known as a Hepatitis Panel.

Yes, you can have a false positive. The lab could have had an error ask the doctor to run the labs a second time. If it still shows hep c then start treatment immediately

Cancer, but usually Hep C progresses to cirrosis then to cancer. Many things can harm the liver. Too many aspirin, tylenol, etc. I have met 2 people with this ailment who got it from cancer treatment. Others from too many antibiotics, some who just partied too much in the 70's. Take a look at the meds a hep c patient cannot take. Why can't they take them? Because thay harm the liver. Tylenol, presrciption pain meds, antibiotics. Diabetes plays a role in it also. Something to do with the liver not getting rid of sugar? You'd have to look it up for sure, but I remember reading it at the GI"s office.
