What is a good topic for a college application essay?I'm a good writer and know that once i find a topic I'll be able to write a pretty good essay, but I can't think of a damn thing to write about.
I was really leaning towards my mothers diagnosis of Hepatitis C, which is something I have a lot to write about and can put a lot of emotion into, but I don't want them thinking it's a sob story because I hear the people who read them don't like sob stories at all.

I think that doing an essay on Hepatitis C is an EXCELLENT idea. Most people are very confused about the differences in Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E and G. Hep C is an unrecognized epidemic in this country and needs all the advocates and essays it can get so I very much encourage you to write about it. No one will think of it as a "sob story". If you wrote about cancer and had a relative with cancer no one would think of that as a "sob story" either. PLEASE do an essay on Hepatitis C and educate your fellow classmates and I would very much appreciate having a copy of that essay when you are done. Good luck with it!
BTW - it is always a little easier to write about something you are familiar with. I am sorry to hear your mom has Hep C but there are many of us out here dealing with it and even more that don't have a CLUE that they have it - which is why it is so important to get the message out there that everyone should know their status and get tested for Hepatitis C and vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B.
