Question about CT scan for elevated liver enzymes?

Other people asked questions on various topics, and are still
waiting for answer. Would be great if you can take a sec and
answer them

Question about CT scan for elevated liver enzymes?I got a CT scan with contrast today because I had elevated liver enzymes in a blood test I took recently and they wanted to see if I had damage to my liver.. Anyways, my question is- can the person that is giving you the CT scan tell if there is damage to the liver as soon as he performs the test? Or do they have to send the results somewhere to be analyzed?

negative
results are usually evaluated by a doctor.often with some conditions the tech can tell what it is, but for definitive answers you need the doc.

Some radiologist are trained to look for problems, however...it is usually a professional doctor that makes the determination. They usually do this right where the films are taken and send the results to the doctor you have.

The liver cells makes enzymes. When the cells are damaged, these enzymes can leak out and go higher on the blood tests results. However, blood tests are not 100% accurate...they usually take more than one and compare them for true results.

When the liver cells become damaged, the immune system of the body responds to this and causes inflammation to develop inside the liver. This can cause the liver to enlarge in size. The doctor can see this on an ultrasound or Ct scan. They can also see if there are any growths/tumors/cysts/cancers and how well the blood is flowing through the liver. They may even check the biliary area under the liver, looking at the gallbladder and bile ducts. If the cause of the problems with the cells being damaged, can be found and stopped and the inflammation treated...then the condition may be reversed and the liver cells can heal.

However, it the cause cannot be stopped, it may proceed to the point where the liver cells die off and form scar tissue inside the liver that blocks the flow of blood...this is then an irreversible disease known as Cirrhosis of the liver.

The doctor checks more than just the liver enzymes...he also checks the liver function blood testing and also viral blood testing. It takes all these tests to truly determine the diagnosis of a liver problem.
The very best test is invasive, it is the liver biopsy. It is the best test to determine how far advance a person is in Cirrhosis of the liver because they look directly at a tissue sample of the liver and not just films (pictures) of it.

You should be with either a gastroenterologist or hepatologist now. No one, but your doctor, has a right to disclose the results of this testing to you...some patients have difficulty handling the results of these tests and your doctor
knows you the best...to be able to tell you.

I hope this information has been of some help to you. It is hard waiting for results. Usually, the doctor will not give a diagnosis until he has all tests results and are sure of it. Best of wishes.
